SimpliSafe Temperature Sensor teardown
A few weeks ago, intrigued by the device’s small size and internal waterproofing, we dove into a teardown of the SimpliSafe Water Sensor and found some neat features worth noting. This week, we delve into the well-designed simplicity of the SimpliSafe Temperature Sensor.
First off, I’m impressed that the entire device is secured with a single thread-forming screw, allowing fast and efficient assembly.
The holes on the side of the device were puzzling me, as they add complexity to the injection-molded housing. I later realized that they allow for sufficient airflow to the device to accurately measure temperature. Neat!
I also really enjoy their use of a mid-mount tactical switch and the way the PCBA is secured to the housing.
They also employed three clever design features:
- The battery is held down to the PCBA using a lip and a snap hook.
- The mounting plate allows the customer to mount the sensor to a wall with screws or adhesive but still have easy access to replace the batteries.
- The pairing button for the freeze sensor activates an edge mount SMT tactile switch.
